Age of Conan Server Merge

Funcom announced this week that they would be reducing the number of servers for their ailing release, Age of Conan, from 49 to just 19.

This came as no surprise to anyone and I wonder if starting with 49 servers wasn't a hugely overambitious and somewhat blinkered move on Funcom's part.

The game has been plagued with bugs since beta, with the community screaming that the game was FAR from ready for release. But, like so many developers lusting for a piece of the Warcraft pie, Funcom chose to release an incomplete game. Even now, some months after release, the game still hasn't got proper Direct X 10 support, and has countless bugs and gaps in content.

With flaws like those affecting your release, it's no wonder Age of Conan has been slain. It will always have a niche following, just not the cluster of gamers Funcom wanted...

Instead of a musclebound hulk of a game, Age of Conan was little more than a steroid-injected pensioner.
